Learning and Working Together as a Community for a Brighter Future

Year 3 this term

Year three have now finished their topic of Rocks and at the end of last term we visited Chislehurst caves for a fantastic tour of the chalk caves! We learnt about the different people who have used the caves over the last 4000 years! In science we concluded our topic by making our own soil using rocks, compost and waste food with real life worms to help break down the food! Class 3B delivered an excellent sharing assembly all about Stone Age boy and wowed us all with their version of ‘We Will Rock You’.

This new term has started well with our new book Varmints and a new topic of ‘Animals Including Humans’. We are grouping animal according to what they eat and then learning about healthy living. In Geography we have looked at the U.K. and learnt about the locations of some of our major cities.

It has been a fantastic week!

In Year 3 we have been learning about instructional texts creating our own instructional text on how to make Stone Age clothes tying in with our Humanities topic for the half term which is the Stone Age. We are still enjoying reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ where we are learning more about Stig’s character. We have been learning about how to use time conjunctions and imperative verbs in our writing. In Maths, we have been investigating angles, lines and shapes with many practical topics to deepen our understanding. This week in Science, we learnt about Mary Anning the Palaeontologist, who became known round the world for her important fossil finds. In P.E. we learned different types of rolls and put these into amazing routines! We have been busy rehearsing for our ‘Sharing Assembly’ set in the Stone Age. We are very excited!

This week in 3B has been an exciting one!

We have introduced our Topic all about the Stone Age by reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ as our class novel and ‘Stone Age Boy’ during English lessons.  We have practiced making our writing more exciting using expanded noun phrases and learnt how to use adverbials to say where, when or how something has happened. This lead to our first ‘Big Write’ on a retell of the opening of the story of ‘Stone Age boy’.  We began our Science Topic on Rocks by handling, investigating and discussing, then grouping different type of rocks. This got us very excited about our trip to Chislehurst Caves near the end of the term! In Maths, we started by looking at place value and using partitioning to add two digit numbers together. In P.E. we have started our Gymnastics unit by looking at sitting positions and balances. In pairs we created our own routines incorporating what we have learnt. They were very impressive!
