Happy New Year!
Last half term we were learning about ‘Recycling – CAN ONE MAN’S RUBBISH BE ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE?’ and looking at how we can reduce, reuse and recycle. This was linked to our topic on recycling and our class text ‘The Tin Forest’ by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson. This book is about an old man who thinks outside the box and reuses other people’s rubbish to create a mystical Tin Forest. We wrote diary entries from the old man’s point of view and persuasive letters to Mrs Eko and parents about the importance of recycling. As part of our home learning we had to use recycle materials and create a piece of treasure; we had to be imaginative and creative.
5B’s CLASS BLOG
A warm welcome to all from Class 5B,
During this term and for the rest of the year we have many exciting activities planned with a sharp focus on high expectations.
At Adamsrill School we see home learning as a way of encouraging children to see learning as something that happens both in and out of school. We want them to be and to become ‘life-long learners’. We know that home learning helps by:
- developing the partnership between home and school in children’s learning
- reinforcing skills and consolidating new learning
- encouraging children to take responsibility for their learning
As such, we implore you to celebrate and encourage your children when they get their homework, as in completing it correctly can result in it then be used to help them with their class work.
Homework will go out on Friday and is due back on the following Wednesday.
5B’s P.E. days are Tuesday and Thursday’s. Please ensure that your child has the correct P.E. uniform in school for those days. If for any reason your child is unable to be in the right attire a note should be sent to the class teacher explaining why. Our topics in P.E. this term are learning more about health – ‘Inside Out’, ‘Boot Camp’ and Invasion Games.
On Monday 24th September 2018. Year 5 will be visiting the Greenwich Planetarium as a part of their study on the Solar System.
5B have the privilege of presenting the first Sharing assembly of the Academic Year. You will be treated to a poetry recital. We look forward to seeing you there!
We look forward to having a close relationship with you and hope that you visit both our blog and Twitter pages regularly to get updates on what is going on in our class.

We have been inventing and writing about our own planets over the last few weeks! We wrote about the climate, size, appearance and aliens on our planets, as well as any other interesting features.
Our focus has been fractions over the last few weeks. We have been comparing simplifying, comparing and converting fractions. We have been persevering with this as sometimes it can be tricky!
Alessandra, our Italian teacher, has been teaching us how to count up to 100 in Italian; here we are in action:
