The children found the space topic very interesting. They read ‘Whatever Next’ and pretended to be baby bear going to the moon. They sent postcards to mother bear describing their journey and what they did on the moon. They read ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. This book linked to making patterns in maths and the children created and described their own patterns. In maths, the children have also been learning about finding one less number from a given number and adding one or two to a given number. For our topic space, the children made spaceships, aliens, painted pictures of different planets and sang songs about space.
We have also been learning about Shakespeare and his play ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We focused on the part of the play with the mischievous fairy Puck and what he gets up to following the quarrel between Oberon, the king of fairies, and Titania, the queen of fairies. The children enthusiastically acted out this part of the play, in role play and in the small world tray.
We celebrated Chinese New Year and a Chinese visitor came into Reception to talk about the Chinese New Year story and how Chinese people celebrate it. The children listened carefully and were able to remember the order of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac.
Finally, thank you for coming to the library, it was a brilliant trip.

Make-up artist visiting Adamsrill Reception
Today we had a visitor who helps people. She sometimes helps people get ready to appear on television! She is a parent of a reception child and works in make-up for television, advertising and fashion shows. Miss Casal volunteered to have her make-up put on by our visiting make-up artist and looked stunning. The children described her as looking like Belle from the ‘Beauty and the Beast’, a princess and a queen! Miss Casal was delighted. Thank you Claire, for demonstrating your artistic talent and explaining your role in helping people.
This month, reception children have had visits from people who help us. The children are learning to ask sensible questions to our visitors using where, when, what and how. In Maths, the children have been practising writing numbers and consolidating their knowledge of counting. In phonics, the children are increasing their knowledge of phonemes and are learning to apply them in their reading and writing. Reading Eggs passwords have been given out, please help your child to access this at home. Reading Eggs is an excellent resource to help your child with learning to read. Teachers can see what is accessed at home. Should you have any questions about Reading Eggs then please ask your child’s class teacher. There is also a helpline for Reading Eggs that you can call Mon-Fri 8:30am -5:00pm. The children will be able to dress in something colourful or Christmas themed on Friday 21st Dec. We are asking for £1 donation, for school funds, if your child chooses to do this. There will be a Christmas party for the children on Thursday 20th Dec. Your child’s class teacher will provide a list of items and would be grateful if you are able to sign your name next to an item that you would be able to supply for the party. Reception’s Nativity Play will be held in the main hall on Thursday, 13th December at 9:30am. The children are learning the songs and there are a lot of enthusiastic singers in Reception. We look forward to seeing everyone on the 13th December.

Other songs learnt this half term have been about Harvest and Autumn. ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ and ‘Autumn Leaves’ are two of their favourite songs to sing. They have also been learning a lot about rhyming and children are enthusiastic about finding words that rhyme. They have enjoyed the book ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’ and some children can recite this from memory because of the rhyming text. In maths, as well as learning about shapes and number songs, children are using Numicon to explain what numbers to 20 look like. As part of our topic about ‘Ourselves’ the children have completed their self-portraits, labelled a picture of a body and drawn pictures of their family. They have all had a busy first half term!
